An essential part of the optimization of the material properties of components e.g. for the automobile or aircraft industries is the correct selection of the used material. Beside the cost for the basic material the manufacturing process of the material plays an important roll particularly concerning distortions during the later heat treatment processes.

The material structure which exists after various manufacturing steps is essential for the life time of the components. In selecting the material one has to consider under which conditions – e.g. corrosive atmospheres or higher temperatures etc - the components have to operate.

The correct heat treatment can positively support the manufacturing conditions after heat treatment – the finishing. The following material groups cover certain properties,which have to be selected according to application.
